In remembrance of “The Old Man,” Mr. Harrison

With heavy hearts we are sad to announce the passing of our shop’s patriarch “The Old Man” Richard Benjamin Harrison. Early this morning, surrounded by family and friends Mr. Harrison lost his ongoing battle with Parkinson’s disease. The team at Gold & Silver Pawn, Pawn Plaza and the Pawn Stars family is grieving his loss. He will be remembered as the best father, grandfather and great-grandfather you could have by his family and by fans as the sometimes grumpy (always loving, however), often wisecracking, and voice of absolute reason on the History television show ‘Pawn Stars’. Services are pending and details will be released in the coming days.

We have been receiving many questions from our fans asking if there is anything they can do, at this time we only ask that you make a donation to The Epilepsy Foundation in Richard’s name.

Thank you for all of your prayers and kind words,

– The Gold & Silver Pawn Shop

This is one of my favorite shows. The old man was always one of my favs! Being a former sailor, I feel a kinship to the man and as a son of a sailor, I understand all the navy-isms that we routinely used. It’s with a heavy hear that I write this as his presence on the show will be truly missed. My heart goes out to the entire Harrison family, colleagues, extended family and friends. We, the viewers are grieving with you as well! The world has lost a gem!

We were said to hear about the “OLD MAN” as a faithful viewer we always loved the close bond with the family. My grandmother had Parkinsons for 50 years. The longest I have ever heard of anyone having it. Then my uncle got it. So said to hear of anyone suffering with that.
I look forward to the bible promise at Isaiah 33:24 that says one day no one will be sick. And John 5:28-29 where Jesus promises to bring back all those sleeping in death to be with their loved ones. May your family find comfort during these hard times.

  27. Boomer Lady
    Boomer Lady says:

He was the best thing on the show, as seniors have learned so much and aren’t afraid to share their knowledge, usually when you don’t want them to. He produced a son, Rick, who read a lot and picked up a lot of antique knowledge that helped to lift “Pawn Stars” above the usual reality show format. I hope this doesn’t negatively affect the show, and I suggest they include a retro segment from now on of The Old Man pontificating on one thing or another.

From my family to yours our deepest condolences for your loss. I personally loved his quick and to the point on everything and his views of Chumlee and Eric almost constantly he would make everyone laugh even if they were the “butt” of the joke. He wouldn’t hurt anyone’s feeling unless they were deserving of it he almost was never rude, unlike the kids from the millennial era. Rick I know how hard this loss is for you since he was your Father…. I wish I could contribute but I am sending prayers to you and your family Ps. yall make my wife and me laugh like mad

As a Veteran of the United States Navy like the Old Man was I only offer this prayer along with my condolences to Petty Officer 1st Class Harrison’s family and friends.

The Old Salt was a special man
who came along in a time
    when he was needed most.

A time that is now gone forever.
    When men believed and sacrificed,
when hero’s walked the earth in mass.

When patriotism was not just a word
    but,
by what men lived and judged
    the worth of each,
a man who lived a life
    most of us cannot comprehend.

    An era now gone
as this warriors tour of duty ends
at this station, and begins anew
    in the heavenly fleet.

Sail on Sailor into your unaccompanied tour,
    we salute you.

What greater honor, that when a man moves forward,
he leaves behind in each of us
the best of what he was.

A defender, protector, supporter, victor, a warrior,
the last of the breed from an era
when ships were made of wood
and men were made of steel.

The Old Salt has reported for duty
that takes him away from us for now.

Those of us who remain behind,
remember, and will continue to remember,
because he now resides forever in our hearts.

As I look up at night, I envision The Old Salt,
a beret draped just above the eye,
as he draws upon his pipe,
    quietly he waits.
    The guardian of heaven’s gate.
